Who we are
The Be Human Movement has been formed by people and partner organisations connected to In Control Partnerships. It’s a group of committed people who recognise the difficulties in today’s society where people are being treated less than human in a variety of settings. we’ve all had the experience of being treated like a cog in a machine; automated responses, unfeeling customer service, institutions with impenetrable rules and regulations, confusing systems and bureaucracy, the ‘computer says no’ mentality.
The inhumane treatment of people doesn’t just happen in big institutions but takes place at a much more discrete and minor level every day in ordinary everyday places.
Industrial systems and treating people as commodities is bad for society.
On top of the ‘normal’ barriers to getting support for daily living, we are constantly confronted with inaccessible systems, being sent down rabbit holes, payment delays and associated worry, stress of not understanding things, lack of opportunity to speak to someone directly and the overwhelming complexity of it all. The cumulative effect is extremely damaging to society’s health and well-being, certainly to anyone who is older, has a long-term health condition, or is more vulnerable e.g. to potential scams. With added pressures on families alongside reductions in support from the NHS and welfare services, we believe it is everyone’s responsibility to look out for each other and help where we can. Therefore we have established a movement to positively encourage a better approach and attitude in all organisations. We fundamentally believe people would rather help than hinder people and that often tricky systems can get in the way of this. So by creating principles we aim to help people in organisations take a good look at what they are doing, how they doing it and talk about how they could improve things based on these principles.
The principles were created by a vast group of citizens across the UK who had experience (direct or research) into what made organisations feel more humane to those working or receiving goods or services from them.
The leader of this movement is YOU!
Need more support?
In order to shift to a culture that reaches these principles there is support In Control and its partners can bring or link to organisations to enable the shift to take place – products and offers such as:
a) All Together Better programme – massive success rate in shifting culture and making better relations and communication between citizen and state or corporate organisations to work together as partners in policymaking for the organisation.
b) Understanding the health and social care sector > for employees who are or may need to engage with the health and social care how best to understand their rights and how this relates to their work.
c) Be Human review – a scope review on your current organisational culture > This could be as simple as a performance type review to a full on survey or mystery shopper type approach).
d) Leadership and Change Management programmes.
e) Resolution investigations, practice and recommendations – this would be where people get stuck in the most dire circumstances to have an independent person come in and unpick it to enable the situation to be resolved but as important to ensure lessons are learned and systems are changed to avoid such issues reoccurring.
f) Advice and mentoring – offering a range of advice to individuals receiving and/or working in organisations around all health and social care employee related issues. This can be an ongoing call line for employees for organisations.
